Banacek Season 1 Episode 2

PROJECT PHOENIX

What is missing in the episode is a Experimental Safety Vehicle. This is a extremely safe car that was made for a contest. The first company to produce a safe car is being offered 15 million dollars for the rights to the car by Horizon car company in Detroit. The car is being transferred from Middlefield to Boston on the way to Detroit and is traveling by railroad car.

The car is strapped down on a flatbed and covered with a tarp. The open car is in between 2 boxcars. There are several guards on the train and the train makes no stops. However, when the train gets to Boston the flatcar is missing.

An obnoxious insurance investigator, Joe Thandenhurst is assigned the case and he hates Banacek. The investigator tells Banacek that the train didn’t stop at all. It was 40 to 45 mph all the way and there were no sidings. R and W m developed the car, the Phoenix and Horizon Engineering is the only company that would benefit from the disappearance.

Their car is in competition to get the prize. There is a rivalry between the companies and they steal each other’s employees. Christine Burton used to work for Horizon and was hired by R and W 2 years ago. She was caught on the way out of the factory with a full set of blueprints and was fired. Banacek goes to meet her, she is a definite suspect. She thinks Banacek is a sexist pig, but starts to warm up to him.The car is insured for 5 million dollars. There are a several suspects, but no way that the car could be stolen, until Banacek figures it out.

McMillan and Wife series description

McMillan and Wife was part of the NBC mystery line up. at first it was part of the Wedensday night mystery movie, then part of the Sunday night mystery movie. this series ran from 1971 to 1977. the mystery movie had several different mystery shows that rotated each week. so there were only about 7 McMillan and wife each year. this enabled them to take their time making the shows and ensured good quality.

i believe this series hold up pretty well. some of the clothes and hairstyles are just awful, but the characters are great. Stuart McMillan (Rock Hudson) and Sally McMillan ( Susan Saint James) were a recently married couple. Mac is quite a bit older than Sally. he used to be an attorney and now he is the police commissioner of San Francisco.

Mildred (Nancy Walker) used to work for Sally's mother, but when Sally married, Mildred went with her. Sgt. Enright ( John Schuck) is mac's assistant. both these characters often serve as comic relief for the show.

OPENING CREDITS

This show was a stylish ,sophisticated mystery series. The body count was pretty high among the friends of the McMillans but that didn't matter, i watched it for the wonderful relationship between Mac and Sally. I thought they had a great marriage ( I know Rock Hudson was gay, but he was such a good actor that i believed he adored Sally)

Mildred was also a wonderful character; loyal, sarcastic and funny. even Enright had his moments. they sure drank a lot on the show and twice they found a body in their house (and they didn't move!!!) also the police commissioner doesn't actually solve crimes, and certainly not with his wife's help.

in the last year, they killed off Sally and Mildred left, so the series didn't end well. they should of just stopped at season 5 with Sally alive. At the end of season 1 Sally was pregnant but she didn't actually have a baby until season 5 and they never explained it. Also, the baby, it was a boy, was never given a name. So there were some continuity errors on the show, but it is still a pretty enjoyable one.

Banacek Season 1 Episode 1

LET’S HEAR IT FOR A LIVING LEGEND

Hank Ives is a star quarterback. He is tackled by a group of opposing players and when they are pulled off him, all there is left, is a helmet. He has disappeared , it is on live TV, so Banacek sees it as his girlfriend’s apartment. The team owner is a prankster, so no one believes him at first that it is a real disappearance. But eventually they get a 2 million dollar ransom note.

Boston Insurance has a 500,000 dollar insurance policy for non performance. Hank is a loner and hard to get along with, especially when he lost his dog tags. His dad’s WWII army dog tags were his good luck charm and recently they disappeared. This leads Banacek to search for a mysterious blonde.

BANACEK PILOT EPISODE

PILOT DETOUR TO NOWHERE

The pilot introduces all the characters. Jay is a chauffeur that Banacek hires when he goes to Texas. Carly is an insurance investigator that is told to go and spy on Banacek. The missing item is a armored car loaded with 1.6 million dollars in gold. It was being driven in Texas with a police escort. The escort had a blown tire, it turns out to be from gunfire, so the armored car is alone for a while. There are no intersections in the road, but the car disappears anyway. The police try to catch up to the car and come across a barrier made with oil drums. There are tracks leading away from the road and over a cliff. The 2 armored car guards are dead over the cliff, but no trace of the car or the gold.

The story starts 2 months later. Now, usually in the series Banacek is called in by the insurance companies quickly. But in this story he pursues the case himself. If an insurance company’s investigators get nowhere for 60 days then anyone can go looking for the item and get the 10% fee. The investigator on the case, Mckinney sends Carly to spy on Banacek, she ends up sleeping with him but betraying him to look for the gold. In the pilot we learn that Banacek’s dad came over from Warsaw and went to work for the insurance company Carly works for. He was replaced by a computer after working there for 20 years, so Banacek isn’t too fond of insurance companies.
